Sheppard finishes third in Gateway Dirt Nationals
Reigning champion Brandon Sheppard capped his 2025 campaign this past weekend, returning to The Dome at America’s Center in pursuit of his third consecutive Kubota Gateway Dirt Nationals title.
With his preliminary assignment on Thursday for the ninth annual event, Sheppard blasted into the 25-lap opener with a third-to-first charge in his heat race. Battling for a $10,000 top prize and a guaranteed spot in Saturday’s finale, he went on to secure a third-place finish, locking himself into the main event.
Rolling off sixth in the $70,000-to-win Gateway Dirt Nationals finale on Saturday evening, Sheppard delivered a near repeat of his Thursday performance. The Illinois native advanced to third once again in the 40-lap feature, joining race winner Bobby Pierce and runner-up Ricky Thornton Jr. on the podium.
