Brandon Sheppard Notches Top-10 Finish in Hillbilly Hundred at Lernerville
Rocket1 Racing Turns Focus to World 100 Weekend at Eldora
SHINNSTON, W.Va. (09/02/25) – Brandon Sheppard added a pair of top-10 finishes over Labor Day weekend as Lernerville Speedway hosted the 57th annual Hillbilly Hundred. The weekend also marked a special reunion, with five-time national champion and former Rocket1 Racing house car driver Josh Richards joining the team for Friday’s program.
Richards’ return was unfortunately cut short when engine trouble sidelined his No. 1J entry during his heat race, ending his weekend early.
“It was a pretty good weekend for us,” Sheppard said. “The consistency is there—we just needed a little more speed late in the races. We started strong both nights but couldn’t quite hang with the leaders as the races went on. Still, we’ve got some good notes to take with us to Eldora. I’m excited for this weekend.”
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) doubleheader drew 40 entries to Lernerville Speedway’s 3/8-mile clay oval on Friday, as the Pennsylvania facility assumed hosting duties for the historic event. Sheppard kicked off the weekend with a heat race win and followed it up with an eighth-place finish in Friday’s feature.
On Saturday, Sheppard secured a spot in the $30,000-to-win Hillbilly Hundred main event with a second-place heat finish, ultimately notching a ninth-place result in the grueling 100-lap finale.
With his consistent weekend, Sheppard remains fifth in the latest LOLMDS championship standings.

Sheppard and the Rocket1 Racing team are now gearing up for one of the most prestigious events in dirt late model racing—the World 100 at Eldora Speedway. The three-day crown jewel begins Thursday with the first of two $12,000-to-win preliminary nights, setting the stage for Saturday’s $72,000-to-win finale.
